Crime Watch Report for February 2018

Area 1- Coordinator- Katie Fazio
2-23-18. A Fountain St. resident reported that he received a fraudulent phone call from the IRS stating that there was a warrant for his arrest. SCAM.

Area 2 – Coordinator-Sandy Gibson
2-23-18. A unlocked vehicle parked in a driveway that was turned on to warm up in the 100 block of E. Crafton Ave. was entered and a laptop computer and purse were stolen. The computer was recovered on the side/rear of the house.

Area 3– Coordinator- Diane McQuaide
2-20-18. A burglary was reported in the 1800 block of Crafton Blvd. Entry was believed to have been made through an unlocked rear door. Loose change and a ring were stolen. Suspect identified and charges will be filed.
2-22-18. A resident from the 100 block of Haldane reported that she believed someone was attempting to enter her residence. No entry was made and no suspect was located.
2-23-18. A vehicle parked o John St. was entered and rummaged through. It does not appear that anything was stolen.

Area 4- Coordinator- Amy Buchman (acting)
2-26-18. A Taylor St. resident received a phone message claiming to be the IRS and that a warrant will be issued for his arrest if the matter is not resolved. The caller spoke with bad English and no information was given to the caller. SCAM
2-27-18. A resident from N. Linwood Ave. reported that she has had several lawn decorations damaged over the past couple of weeks.
2-27-18. A resident from Home Ave. received a fraudulent phone call from a male who identified himself as a Sheriff. The male advised the resident that there was a “contact warrant” for him for failure to appear for jury duty. SCAM.

Area 5- Coordinator- Mary Fleming

Area 6- Coordinator- Bill & Janet Finlay Jr.
2-01-18. A resident from Thomas St. was scammed out of money after receiving mail that she had won money in an international sweepstakes. Do not send money to anyone that you do not know. SCAM
2-14-18. A hit and run accident was reported on W. Steuben St. at Linden Ave. The suspect vehicle was a white pick-up truck with red letters on it and was operated by two Hispanic males.
2-20-18. A parked vehicle was struck by a mid-sized gray vehicle that fled the area in the parking lot near Giant Eagle.
Thornburg:
2-13-18. A vehicle window was broken out by an unknown actor who stole a diaper bag and purse. This occurred during the afternoon as the vehicle was parked at the dog park and the owner was out walking.

Tips/advice:
PLEASE REMEMBER TO LOCK YOUR VEHICLES AND YOUR HOUSE. DO NOT LEAVE VALUABLES IN YOUR VEHICLE EITHER. DO NOT LEAVE FIREARMS IN YOUR VEHICLE.
